Genita C. Robinson is the Executive Director of Lawyers Lend-A-Hand to Youth. Ms. Robinson joined Lawyers Lend-A-Hand after working as an education consultant, but she has a diverse background in law and education.
She was a senior staff member of the Chicago Public Schools for several years. She served as Director of the Charter Schools Office at the launch of Renaissance 2010, the mayoral initiative to create 100 new schools during the first decade of the new millennium, and she was also Director of Special Projects in the Office of the Chief Executive Officer, Arne Duncan. In both positions, Ms. Robinson provided support and services to schools, often by helping them to "negotiate" the bureaucracy. She also worked to ensure that all students receive a quality education by closing under-performing schools.
Trained as an attorney, Ms. Robinson practiced commercial litigation at Sachnoff & Weaver, Ltd. after a brief stint as a regulatory attorney in a large District of Columbia law firm. Her transition from the practice of law to education included a period in higher education administration. She was the Dean of Admissions at the University of Chicago Law School and during that time served on several committees for the Law School Admissions Council.
While Ms. Robinson's intellectual curiosity has her constantly in search of educational and enrichment opportunities, she received her B.S.F.S. in International Politics from Georgetown University and her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School. She was a Criminal and Juvenile Justice Project Law Clerk in the Mandel Legal Clinic during law school.
Ms. Robinson is active in her undergraduate alumni association and was a founding member of her neighborhood organization. She is a member of the Leadership Fellows Association Board of Leadership Greater Chicago and the Jane Addams Juvenile Court Foundation Board of Directors
