Lawyers Lend-A-Hand to Youth raised close to $100,000 to benefit disadvantaged Chicago-area youth at the Ninth Annual Barristers Big Band Benefit Ball. The Ball was held Saturday, March 13, 2010.
At the dinner preceding the dance, Jim Tyree of Mesirow Financial and Sun-Times Media received the Barristers Philanthropic Award. In accepting the award, Jim quoted one of Lend-A-Hand's early supporters - Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz. "Everybody can't do big things, but we can all do little things that help others."
To the delight of all, Art Norman, formerly of NBC 5 Chicago, served as the evening's emcee and dance contest judge.
As it does every year, the Barristers Big Band offered a lineup of favorite jazz, ballroom and swing standards from the 1930s, 40s and 50s. This 25-piece jazz orchestra is comprised of lawyers, judges and law students.
