In Sunday's Chicago Tribune, reporter Stephanie Banchero profiled a former foster care youth who is now a freshman at Morehouse College.  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-million-dollar-kid-04-oct04,0,5344326,full.story  Derrius Quarles earned more than $1 million in college scholarships, including a full-ride to Morehouse.

Lend-A-Hand executive director Genita C. Robinson's letter to the editor noted that, although Derrius was unable to rely on his parents, he had several adult mentor in his life, including a biology teacher that pushed him academically, a male mentor met through a tutoring program that counseled him on getting his own place, and a high school counselor that allowed him to stay late to use the school computer. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/letters/chi-091005robinson_briefs,0,6566637.story
