Dear Colleagues, Friends, and Supporters,
As many of you know, each year I compete in a powerlifting meet to raise funds for Lawyers Lend-A-Hand to Youth, which supports and promotes one-on-one tutor/mentor relationships. I was a Lend-A-Hand board member from 2003 to 2009, and I believe that the need for these relationships is stronger than ever as we must invest in programs that impact our most underserved youth.
I will be lifting on Saturday, August 14, 2010, in the American Powerlifting Federation/Amateur American Powerlifting Federation Summer Bash 7. To support me and Lend-A-Hand, you can make a flat pledge or pledge an amount per pound lifted.
During the competition, I will perform three lifts. My combined total lifting range in past years was between 1400 and 1603 pounds, and I anticipate being somewhere in that range this year. If I lift 1603 pounds and you pledge $.10 per pound, your donation would be $160. After the meet, I will let everyone know what they owe.
All funds raised go directly to Lend-A-Hand. To date, Lifting to Lend-A-Hand has raised close to $130,000.
This year I want to offer a unique opportunity for Lifting donors at or above a certain level. Lend-A-Hand and I will recognize donors committing to contributions of $500 or greater by:
- Recognizing them as sponsors in all print and electronic material on Lifting for Lend-A-Hand;
- Adding their name/logo to a t-shirt to be worn by me during the Lifting competition;
- Recognizing them in the printed program at the annual My Hero Awards Luncheon (each year the luncheon includes a check presentation of the Lifting proceeds); and
- Giving them 2 complimentary tickets to the My Hero Awards Luncheon.
Several of you have consistently given at this level in the past, and I wanted to recognize your commitment. I hope that others may decide to increase their donation. Please know that Lend-A-Hand and I appreciate all of your support at every level.
I thank all of you for your past support and contributions, and I hope that I can count on you again. No amount is too small to contribute. Last year, we raised $31,000. Please help me to raise $35,000 this time around!
If you are interested in making a pledge, please contact me at the e-mail below. You can also donate online by clicking here. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Lawyers Lend-A-Hand to Youth participated in the planning and production of at town hall on Youth and Violence. The Chicago Bar Association's Interfaith Committee presented the town hall in partnership with WYCC-TV Channel 20. The town hall was moderated by Bill Campbell, the host and executive producer of "Chicagoing" (ABC 7 Chicago) and president of Campbell Quest, and the event featured a panel of students, parents, law enforcement officials, court officials, and clergy.
