Daniel A. Cotter
Daniel Cotter is a founding partner at Korey Cotter Heather & Richardson LLC. Previously, Dan was Chair of the Corporate, Transactional and Regulatory/Compliance practice group at Lindemann LLC and was Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of Argo Group US, Inc. At Argo Group, he had broad responsibility for all legal matters related to the operations of the organization, including the records retention program and regulatory oversight (July 2005-April 2010). Prior to joining Argonaut, Mr. Cotter served as Senior Counsel of Unitrin, Inc and has held various positions of increasing responsibility at CNA and Lord, Bissell & Brook.
Prior to graduating from law school in 1995, Mr. Cotter worked as an accountant at CNA. Mr. Cotter received his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School, summa cum laude, 1995, and received his B.A., magna cum laude, in Accounting from Monmouth College, 1988.He is a past Chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the Chicago Bar Association, and is the current Treasurer of both the Chicago Bar Foundation and the Chicago Bar Association. Dan is a frequent writer and presenter on various substantive topics, including insurance regulation and compliance, and is the creator of the "Thank You" method of networking.
He currently is an adjunct professor at The John Marshall Law School, teaching Insurance Law and Accounting for Lawyers. He is a CPA. Mr. Cotter sits on a number of community organizations’ boards, including The John Marshall Law School Alumni Association (Secretary), the Chicago Bar Foundation, the Chicago Bar Association, the Kendall College Business School Advisory Board and Monmouth College Board of Trustees, and serves as Chair of the Edgebrook Public School Local School Council.
